अतीक़ अहमद का बेटा असद पढ़ने के लिए लंदन जाना चाहता था। उसको वहां लाॅ कोर्स में दाख़िला भी मिल गया लेकिन वो पढ़ नहीं पाया क्योंकि राज्य चाहता था उसके हाथ में डिग्री नहीं तमंचा आए। सरकार ने उसके ख़िलाफ एक भी आपराधिक मामला न होने के बावजूद पासपोर्ट जारी नहीं किया। जो लड़का देश का बड़ा वकील हो सकता था उसको अपराधी बनाकर मार दिया गया। लोग अक्सर सवाल करते हैं मुसलमान शादी, खाने, और दिखावों पर ख़र्च करते हैं शिक्षा पर नहीं। यह नरेटीव किसने बनाया? ज़ाहिर है, उस राज्य ने जिसकी ज़िम्मेदारी है कि अपने हर नागरिक को शिक्षा के समान अवसर उपलब्ध कराए। लेकिन अपनी ज़िम्मेदारी निभाने में विफल रहा राज्य क्या कर रहा है? अपनी विफलता का बोझ समुदाय पर मढ़ रहा है। दुख की बात है कि बहुसंख्यक समुदाय का पढ़ा-लिखा और कथित समझदार तबक़ा भी इसका समर्थन कर रहा है। राज्य को क्या करना चाहिए था यह बताने की ज़रूरत नहीं है लेकिन राज्य ने क्या किया, यह बताना ज़रूरी है। पिछले आठ साल के दौरान मौलाना आज़ाद के नाम पर दी जाने वाली छात्रवृत्ति बंद कर दी।  वक़्फ काउंसिल से जारी होने वाली छात्रवृत्ति में रोड़े अटकाए गए।  मेरिट कम मीन स्कॉलरशिप का तो ख़ैर सबको ही मालूम है। ग्लोकल और जौहर विश्वविद्यालयों की ईंट, जंगले तक सरकार ने चुरा लिए। एएमयू की ग्रांट में कटौती की और मुसलमान इदारों को विदेश में कमा रहे भारतीयों से मिलने वाले चंदे के तमाम रास्ते बंद कर दिए। हर उस इदारे को ईडी, इंकम टैक्स और एफसीआरए के चंगुल में उलझा दिया जो मुसलमान बच्चों को कोचिंग या शैक्षणिक सहायता मुहैया करा रहा था। इतने पर भी बस नहीं चल रहा। सरकारी संस्थानों में दाख़िलों में तमाम अड़ंगे खाते हैं और यही बच्चे किसी निजी संस्थान में जाते हैं तो धर्म और क्षेत्र के आधार पर भेदभाव का शिकार बनते रहे हैं। कहीं कश्मीरी कहकर मारा जाता है, कहीं असमी और बांग्लादेशी कहकर धुना जाता है, कहीं मु-ल्ला, कटु-आ, पाकिस्तानी जैसे सम्मानजनक संबोधनों से नवाज़ा जाता है। इतनी बाधाओं के बावजूद मुसलमान बच्चे पढ़ रहे हैं और अपराधी नहीं बन रहे है तो राज्य और बहुसंख्यक समाज को उनका आभारी होना चाहिए। सब जानते हैं राज्य ने अपने ही देश के सबसे बड़े अल्पसंख्यक समुदाय के ख़िलाफ खुलेआम युद्ध का ऐलान कर रखा है। इतने शोषण, इतनी नफरत, और इतने भेदभाव के बावजूद मुसलमान बच्चे न तलवारें लहराते घूम रहे हैं, न सरकार द्वारा घोषित युद्ध में हिस्सेदार बन रहे हैं। इसलिए जब कोई लिखता है कि मुसलमान ये नहीं कर रहे, मुसलमान वो नहीं कर रहे, उन्हें ये करना चाहिए, बीजेपी ने इनका क्या बिगाड़ा है, और ये क्यों सरकार का इतना विरोध कर रहे हैं, तो यक़ीन मानिए, दिल से आवाज़ आती है कि इसके गले में टूटे जूतों की माला डाल दें या मुंह पर थूक दें। बस संस्कार यह सब करने की इजाज़त नहीं देते, दूसरा यह दबाव रहता है कि हम ही यह सब करने लगेंगे तो उनपर क्या प्रभाव पड़ेगा जिन्हें पढ़ाते हैं और अच्छा बनने की नसीहत करते हैं।

Atiq Ahmed's son Asad wanted to go to London to study. He also got admission in law course there but he could not study because the state wanted him to have a pistol and not a degree. The government did not issue him a passport despite not having a single criminal case against him. The boy who could have been a big lawyer of the country was made a criminal and killed. People often question, Muslims spend on marriage, food, and appearances, not on education. Who created this narrative? Obviously, the state which has the responsibility to provide equal opportunities for education to each of its citizens. But what is the state doing that has failed to fulfill its responsibility? Putting the burden of his failure on the community. It is sad that the educated and so-called intelligent section of the majority community is also supporting it. There is no need to tell what the state should have done but it is necessary to tell what the state did. During the last eight years, the scholarship given in the name of Maulana Azad was stopped. Blocks were stuck in the scholarship issued by the Waqf Council. Everyone knows about merit cum mean scholarship. The government stole even the bricks and railings of Glocal and Johar universities. Cut the grant of AMU and closed all the ways of donations to Muslim institutions from Indians earning abroad. Every organization which was providing coaching or educational assistance to Muslim children was entangled in the clutches of ED, Income Tax and FCRA. Still it is not working. There are many hurdles in the admissions in government institutions and if these children go to any private institution then they have been becoming victims of discrimination on the basis of religion and region. Somewhere they are killed by being called Kashmiri, somewhere they are thrashed by being called Assamese and Bangladeshi, somewhere they are honored with respectable addresses like Mullah, Katu-aa, Pakistani. Despite so many obstacles, Muslim children are studying and not becoming criminals, so the state and the majority society should be grateful to them. Everyone knows that the state has openly declared war against the largest minority community of its own country. Despite so much exploitation, so much hatred, and so much discrimination, Muslim children are neither roaming around waving swords, nor becoming a part of the war declared by the government. That's why when someone writes that Muslims are not doing this, Muslims are not doing that, they should do this, what has BJP done to them, and why are they opposing the government so much, then believe me, the voice comes from the heart. Put a garland of broken shoes around his neck or spit on his face. Just the culture does not allow us to do all this, secondly there is pressure that if we start doing all this then what will be the effect on those whom we teach and advise to be good.
