आज शेन वार्न की पुण्यतिथि है, लिखने को बहुत कुछ है लेकिन लास्ट ईयर उनके गुज़रने के बाद मैंने ये पोस्ट लिखी थी जो इस लिहाज़ से बेहतर है कि इसमें उनकी काबलियत को समझने का ठीक ठाक मसाला है।  

शेन वार्न का यूँ अचानक जाना मेरे लिए तकलीफ़ देह है, क्रिकेट इतिहास में उनसे बड़ा स्पिनर कोई नही हुआ, और ये मैं उनके बारे में हमेशा लिखता आया हूँ।

ये पोस्ट पुरानी है पर आज इसे लिखना ज़रूरी है।

शेन वार्न क्यो महान है, ये मैं आपको आगे चलकर बताऊंगा, दरअसल सिर्फ़ आंकड़े याद कर लेना ही क्रिकेट नही है, क्योंकि जब पहली बार कोई क्रिकेट खेलने आता है तो उसके पीछे कोई रिकार्ड नही होता फिर कैसे समझेंगे कि ये क्रिकेटर भविष्य में कैसा होगा,आखिर सचिन भी शुरुआत में रन नही बना पाए थे, या बहुत से महान प्लेयर शुरू में रन नही बना पाए, इसलिए आंकड़ों से ज़्यादा क्रिकेट की समझ होना ज़रूरी है।

शेन वार्न एक लेग स्पिनर थे, अमूमन लोग उन्हें टर्न के लिए जानते है, लेकिन आपको पता होना चाहिए लेग स्पिन में अच्छी टर्न तो लोकल लेवल के प्लेयर भी करा लेते है।

सचिन तेंदुलकर खुद बढ़िया टर्न कराते थे, यहाँ तक लेग स्टम्प की बॉल टर्न होकर ऑफ स्टम्प पर वाइड हो जाती थी।

सवाल ये है कि शेन वार्न में ख़ास क्या था, जिसने भी लेग स्पिन बॉलिंग की है उसे पता है हाथ की तीनों उंगलियों यानी मिडिल, रिंग और लिटिल फिंगर पर रोल करते हुए करते है, चूंकि बॉल की सिलाई पर रोल करते है तो सिलाई स्लिप की तरफ एंगल बनाती है पहले मिडिल फिंगर का ज़ोर लगता है फिर रिंग और लास्ट में लिटिल फिंगर से छूती हुई निकल जाती है, ये पूरी स्पिन ही उंगलियों की सही टाइमिंग, कलाई का एंगल और उंगलियों के फोर्स पर डिपेंड है, ऑफ स्पिनर के लिए एक ही उँगली यानी इंडेक्स फिंगर काम के लिए होती है इसलिए उसको एक ही उँगली को कंट्रोल करना पड़ता है लिहाज़ा उसकी लाइन लेंथ सही होती है, याद होगा जब T20 में भारत पाकिस्तान के बीच सुपर ओवर हुआ था जिसमे बॉलर को विकेट पर बाल फेंकना था, भारत इसीलिए जीता था कि उसके पास ऑफ स्पिनर थे जिनकी लाइन लेंथ सही होती है, हरभजन, सहवाग सब ऑफ स्पिनर थे, जबकि पाकिस्तान की तरफ से लेग स्पिनर शाहिद अफरीदी और तेज़ बॉलर गुल जैसे थे, अफरीदी ने टर्न के बजाय सीधी रखने की कोशिश की क्योंकि आदत थी नही इसलिए चूक गए और गुल ने स्लो फेंकी वो भी आदत में नही थी। 

जबकि लेग स्पिनर को तीनों उंगलियों का कंट्रोल चाहिए एक सेकंड के तीन बराबर हिस्सो में तीनों उंगलियों पर अलग अलग फोर्स के साथ बॉल को रोल कराना होता है जैसे लेग स्पिन में रिंग फिंगर का ज़्यादा ज़ोर लगता है, चूंकि लिटिल फिंगर में ताकत कम होती है। अब इसी में थोड़ी टाइमिंग या फोर्स का फर्क हो गया तो बॉल या तो फुलटॉस हो जायेगी या फिर छोटी। शेन वार्न से हर तीसरे ओवर में फुलटॉस हो जाती थी, यही हाल पीयूष चावला, कुलदीप यादव यासिर शाह, इमरान ताहिर लोगो के साथ होता रहता है, जबकि ऑफ स्पिनर के साथ ऐसा बहुत कम होता है।

शेन वार्न में काबलियत ये थी कि वो सिर्फ लेग स्पिन पर डिपेंड नही था, वैसे भी ऑस्ट्रेलिया में कुकाबुरा बॉल इस्तेमाल होती है जिसकी सिलाई अंदर होती है, और देर से पुरानी होती है ऐसे में ग्रिप बनाना आसान नही है हालांकि ग्रिप का मसला ऑफ स्पिनर के साथ ज़्यादा होता है, खैर आपकी बॉल में वैरायटी होनी चाहिए, शेन वार्न फ्लिपर, गुगली टॉप स्पिन भी क्लास की करता था।

लेग स्पिन दरअसल लेग स्टम्प से ऑफ स्टम्प की तरफ टर्न को कहते है, जबकि लेग स्पिन के ही ऐक्शन में जब बॉल ऑफ से लेग स्टम्प पर आ जाये तो उसे गुगली कहते है, और जब मिडिल स्टम्प पर बॉल पड़कर बिना टर्न हुए सीधे स्टम्प पर ऊँचाई से आ जाए उसे टॉप स्पिन बोलते है, ये थोड़ी तेज़ होती है, फ्लिपर टॉप स्पिन की तरह सीधी जाती है लेकिन ये नीची रहती है, इसका इस्तेमाल सुस्त बैट्समैन के लिए ज़्यादा होता है, जैसे कोई मोटा प्लेयर हो जो अचानक झुक न पाए, या जिसका स्टांस स्लो हो गया हो, शेन वार्न ज़्यादातर फ्लिपर इंज़माम उल हक पर इस्तेमाल करता था।

लेग स्पिन में दो उंगली ऊपर दो नीचे, नीचे रिंग फिंगर और लिटिल फिंगर जिसपर बॉल रोल होती है और ये एंगल के साथ निकलती है, इसमे अंपायर के पीछे वाले कैमरे से देखने पर साइड हैंड दिखता है, जबकि टॉप स्पिन में बैक हैंड बॉल निकलती है, लिहाज़ा हैंड इतना मुड़ता है कि हथेली का थोड़ा हिस्सा दिखता है, जबकि गुगली में हैंड इतना मोड़ना पड़ता है कि आप पूरी हथेली देख सकते है, फ्लिपर चुटकी के साथ डाली जाती है, शेन वार्न चुटकी से डालता था, यानी बॉल जैसे ही निकली हो मानो चुटकी बजाई हो जबकि आजकल के स्पिनर इसमे इतने माहिर नही है इसलिए वो अलग तरीका अपनाते है, बॉल को लेग स्पिन की तरह रोल कराते है लेकिन बॉल को आधी पकड़ते है और उंगलियों के साथ हथेली में चिपका लेते है यानी सिर्फ उंगलियों से नही ऐसे में बॉल सीधी और नीची रहती है।

शेन वार्न आठ तरह से बॉल फेंकता था, हर लेग स्पिनर को बॉल टर्न कराने के लिए ऊँचाई का सहारा लेना पड़ता है जैसे अनिल कुंबले, चंद्रशेखर, सचिन, दानिश कनेरिया, शादाब, पीयूष चावला, आदिल रशीद, जैसे बहुत से स्पिनर जबकि वार्न को नीचे रखकर भी टर्न कराना आता था, आपको याद होगा लेफ्ट हैंड का बैट्समैन एंड्रू स्ट्रॉस अपना पूरा पैर बाहर निकालता है और फिर भी वार्न की लेग स्पिन पर बोल्ड हो जाता है, वो बॉल बहुत नीची रहकर टर्न हुई थी।

वार्न को मुरलीधरन से बेहतर इसलिए कहा जाता है कि उसने तेज़ पिचों पर विकेट लिए है, मैक्ग्राथ, गिलेस्पी, ब्रेटली, जैसे तेज़ बॉलर आधे विकेट्स ले लेते थे वार्न के खाते में कम विकेट आते थे, जबकि मुरलीधरन ने सत्तर प्रतिशत मैच स्पिन पिचों पर ही खेले है, और लंका के तेज़ बॉलर विकेट नही ले पाते थे इसलिए मुरली को ज़्यादा मौका मिलता, वो एक टेस्ट में बहुत ओवर्स फेंकते। मुरलीधरन का एक्शन मानकों पर खरा नहीं था आईसीसी ने जो कोहनी का एंगल तय किया था उसपर वो खरे नहीं उतरते थे, इसी गुस्से में पूरी लंका टीम मैच छोड़कर बाहर आ गई थी बहरहाल इन सबके बावजूद मुरली अपने दौर के शानदार बॉलर थे।

मैं जानता हूँ आपलोग आईपीएल देखेंगे लेकिन आंकड़ों से ज़्यादा क्रिकेट कि बारीकी पर ध्यान दीजिए। जिसदिन आपको बारीकी समझ आ गई, उस दिन किसी भी बैट्समैन या बॉलर को पहली दूसरी इनिंग देखकर ही बता सकते है वो किस लेवल का प्लेयर बनेगा।

बहरहाल आप लोग गर्व कर सकते है कि वार्न आपके दौर के थे और आपने उन्हें खेलते देखा।
